Shopping Tips
When ordering at the deli counter, be sure to ask for each product by its full name: Prosciutto di Parma®, Parmigiano Reggiano®, Prosciutto di San Daniele®, Grana Padano®, Montasio® Prosciutto di San Daniele and Prosciutto di Parma should be sliced paper thin and arranged carefully on deli paper. If buying these air-cured hams in pre-sliced form, look for the logos and symbols of guaranteed quality on labels. It is best to purchase Montasio, Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano in wedges, not pre-grated. Check the rind or package label to verify the product logo and other marks of guaranteed quality.
Serving Suggestions
Breakfast or Brunch! Layer Prosciutto di Parma slices, scrambled egg and tomato on a toasted, buttered Kaiser roll.
Lunch! Add a touch of elegance — and valuable protein and calcium — by garnishing a favorite salad with shards of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and toasted pine nuts.
Afternoon snack! Wrap a slice of Prosciutto di San Daniele around something yummy from the fridge — like a slice of melon or last night’s grilled asparagus.
Dinner! Top steamed vegetables — green beans, broccoli, whatever you like — with grated Grana Padano mixed with breadcrumbs and a little olive oil. Run under the broiler to make a quick gratin. The same trick is great for mashed potatoes, too.
Late-night Feast! Toss hot spaghetti with olive oil, chopped garlic, black pepper and plenty of grated Montasio cheese.
